Concrete slab requirements

For above-ground installs, the FEMA-compliant anchor design assumes a concrete slab that meets a minimum thickness, minimum strength (typically 3,000 psi concrete), and adequate condition. If any of those conditions aren't met, the installer will recommend one of three paths:

  1. Move the shelter location to a slab or pad that meets the spec.
  2. Pour a supplemental pad sized to the shelter footprint.
  3. Re-pour the affected slab section with proper thickness and reinforcement.

Skipping this step to save money is how shelters end up non-compliant and ineligible for the PRPC rebate. A competent installer will not sign off on an anchor set that doesn't meet the engineering.

Timeline
